Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The tenth month of the year, also known as October, marks the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month each year. The goal of Domestic Violence Awareness Month is to bring nation, and even international, attention to domestic violence. The effort is more than just your ordinary “p.c.” holiday. There is a greater goal at hand. People often do not understand the importance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month because the term “raise awareness” is always stated at some point during the pitch. These forces people to downgrade the issue at hand. Domestic violence is one of the most tumultuous experiences that any person could ever face. Domestic violence causes a person to be robbed of the very freedoms in life that they are fundamentally entitled to by right of the Constitution. What’s more is that domestic violence often stays with a person throughout their lifetime. Whether domestic violence causes one to have ravaging effects in their physical health or their mental health, the effects that they are subject to encounter can be quite devastating.

1. One of the activities that you are going to want to attend during Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a candlelight vigil. This is a commemorative service that is used to honor those whom lives were taken at the hand of domestic violence. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, people bind together in droves in order to pay their respects to those that have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence. You will find that most states, and even counties, designate a date during Domestic Violence Awareness Month to hold the domestic violence candlelight vigil. There are usually at least two speakers that will speak on the issue, at least one of which is of political influence. In addition, one of the most pivotal moments of the candlelight vigil is the moment of silence, simultaneous with the raising of lights, that is taken near the end of the vigil.

2. Another one of the larger activities that are attended during Domestic Violence Awareness Month are the domestic violence community outreach projects. Although there are many community outreach programs that go on throughout the course of the year, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, domestic violence is at the forefront of the cause. Although adult women are widely affected by domestic violence, there are also young women that suffer from issues of domestic abuse as well. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a mass effort to reach out to those that are suffering from this issue, and get them the help that they need. Even for those that have been abused in the past, there is also help available for them. This is essential due to the fact that many women that suffer from domestic abuse have not received the professional help that they need.
